The Siberian long-haired cat originated from Northern Russia. After the falling of the Berlin Wall, the cat arrived in our latitudes in the early 90's from St. Petersburg and Moscow.
In view of the cold climates in which they live, these cats have developed good survival qualities such as a very thick fur and a waterproof coat; ie it is denser, longer and non-matting as there is no undercoat.
Males can reach 12 kilos and females 6-8 kgs.
They are big, strong muscular cats. Contrary to the Maine Coon, the Siberian is circular in shape. All colours are accepted with the exclusion of the colourpoint for certain clubs (Neva Mascarade).
It is a rustic cat with highly developed hunting instincts and possesses a calm and intelligent nature.
